Therapy at Sunrise House
Therapy is one of the most effective tools in combatting addiction and paving a clear path to recovery. Therapy sessions allow individuals to talk through their insecurities, weaknesses, and triggers, whether in a one-on-one talk with a counselor or in a group setting with other people battling addiction.
Each patient in Sunrise House’s residential program receives one hour-long session of individual counseling a week. Patients will be assigned a counselor early in their stay at Sunrise House, and will work with him or her throughout treatment.
At Sunrise House, we take a patient-centric approach to group therapy, offering a wide range of groups to choose from. Since different people will have different treatment needs, we offer a range of specialized groups that includes:
- Gender-specific groups.
- LGBTQ groups.
- Anger management courses.
- Co-occurring disorder groups.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
One of the most common types of therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is available to patients at Sunrise House. Designed to help individuals change harmful thoughts and beliefs, CBT is used to help develop new coping skills to maintain long-term recovery.
Is Medication-Assisted Treatment Available?
We offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for those that need it. Onsite doctors are able to distribute the needed amount of medications to patients at regular doses. Additionally, we offer supervised Vivitrol shot administration as needed.
Other Therapeutic Approaches
Mindfulness/Reflections: Every evening, from 9 to 10, you will have the option of participating in a mindfulness group called “Reflections.” During this session, you’ll be encouraged to reflect on your day of treatment and isolate any areas that you thought were particularly valuable, or didn’t find much value in. Discussion is encouraged. Please note that this is not the same as Meditation group, which is offered one day in the morning and is a more focused therapy practice.
Music Therapy: Music is one of the greatest tools of communication that humans have developed, and it can also be made into a valuable asset during therapy. You will have the option of participating in music therapy once a week.
The 12-step program is one of the oldest methods of addiction recovery and has helped people around the world fight addiction. Sunrise House hosts daily Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) meetings, open to those enrolled at the facility and for those seeking a local chapter to join.
When your time in treatment comes to an end, our discharge planners will work with you to find a local chapter so you can find a support network for your recovery.
